Hello! My name is Marissa Currie, and I would love to be your doula!
Born and raised on Cape Cod, I currently live in Harwich with my Partner, our Daughter, Son, and Cat Moonshine. When I'm not passionately reading or talking about pregnancy and birth, I enjoy hiking, crochet, reading and traveling.
Doulas are trained professionals who provide non-medical physical, emotional and informational support to a birthing parent throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum helping them achieve the best possible birthing experience.
I realized I had a passion for birth work after photographing a home birth for a friend. Afterwards, I immersed myself in information and conversation about childbirth and found myself reluctant to leave that behind. This when I started my education in Birth Doula support.
I am passionate about holding space for other birthing families through their own pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. As a Doula, I am able to help birthing families feel empowered and validate their experience(s) which is something that I am honored and privileged to be a part of.
I Believe in processing, healing, cherishing and celebrating your pregnancy, labor and birth experience with work that is sustainable, loving and grounding.
My main job is to respect and support the values, autonomy and beliefs of the birthing person/family. That support can manifest in many ways depending on what the birthing person and their family needs. It can look like emotional support, physical support, infant care, information, referrals, household organization, and more.
Centering on a Reproductive Justice framework, I have provided care to clients of all experiences supported with a passion in education curated to young/teen parents, addiction and recovery, LGBTQIA+ and other underserved or marginalized families in my community. I am currently the only Doula service accepting MassHealth clients on Cape Cod.
Rooted in community care I recognize the systemic issues that impact birthing people during their reproductive experiences. I approach birth planning by supporting choices and preferences, providing clients with evidence based information, and advocating for YOUR way to achieve the best possible birth and postpartum experience.
I am currently pursuing my Birth Doula Certification through Childbirth International. In addition, I've been trained in BACE Approved Birth Doula training, BACE approved Introduction to Childbirth, Perinatal Emotional Complications, BACE Breastfeeding Foundations, BADT Crisis Response for Birth-workers and am CPR Certified. I have been attending and photographing births since July 2020.
I am a certified Recovery Coach through BSAS. I have received numerous trainings through Recovery Education Collaborative, SAMSHA, Grayken Center, Institute for Health and Recovery, Cape & Island DA office and BMC pertaining to addiction and recovery peer support, domestic violence, opioid use disorders in the perinatal and postpartum period, disabled persons protection, trauma informed care, harm reduction, SDV survivors, and more!
